As Sexual Violence Prevention Month in Ontario draws to a close, I want to end on a hope filled note. That’s why I’m thrilled to introduce Small Change listeners to Elizabeth Perlman.
Elizabeth has dedicated her life to supporting the wisdom and well-being of teenage girls and young women. She does this through her intuitive writing workshops and coaching sessions, giving girls and young women the time and space they need to speak their truth, discover their strengths, and learn to trust their voice as leaders.
In addition to being the founding director of The Intuitive Writing Project, Elizabeth is also a teacher, story coach, author, poet, podcaster and a creative thought leader.
Elizabeth dreams of a world in which everyone is free to express their most authentic self and to own their power as the authors of their lives. She believes, how you tell your story is how you live your life — and also how you change the world.
Elizabeth travelled a long and winding road that brought her to where she belongs and that’s working with teenage girls and young women helping them heal, transform and empower themselves through the power of writing. Elizabeth explains why she started The Intuitive Writing Project and how it helps teenage girls and young women make sense of, and change, their world.

Dr. Mary Simmerling, poet, scholar, activist, and founder of Write Where We Belong and Write Where We Belong Press, had this to say about Elizabeth’s book, “More than a book, Word Magic is a gift of permission to reclaim who we really are, what we know, and what we believe. It is a force multiplier for empowerment, unsilencing, and reclamation.”
Elizabeth, tells Small Change listeners about, Word Magic: The Power of Writing to Reframe Your Story and Reclaim Your Intuition, the colorful, creative, self-empowerment workbook she created for teenage girls and young women.
Elizabeth calls the work she does “her soul work.” We discuss why not everyone understands what she is trying to accomplish with The Intuitive Writing Project and Word Magic and what Elizabeth would tell parents who might be hesitant to let their daughters read her book and give the program a try.
We end our conversation with Elizabeth reading her favourite section from Word Magic: The Power of Writing to Reframe Your Story and Reclaim Your Intuition.
