This co-operative form of finance may be the answer to late-stage capitalism and neoliberalism that will create a more equitable world. Political parties should lead this reformative social movement.
Thanks for the link to Poor No More. I plan to watch it. I am a member of a credit union and am happy to have an alternative to the big banks which exert far too much control over the government's agenda which is always only in their interest. However, recently my credit union redeveloped their location on King Street in Waterloo. They built a new building to house themselves with 5 floors of rental units above the commercial level. Not one of those rental units is geared to income, all are market value. When I inquired why, the answer was the land is too valuable. This is an enormous disappointment and a lost opportunity to do the right thing for a community which desperately needs affordable housing. So...if you are member of a credit union, take up any offers to sit on the board because that is where decisions are made that can make a difference.
Visit your local credit union. Pick up a few pamphlets take a look begin slowly, but gradually move everything over it can be done.
