In her role as Director of Legal Affairs for the National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL), Suzanne Zaccour recommended a ban on the use of parental alienation accusations in family law cases.
Thank you Doreen for sharing this national information and activism. To add to this there is also a group called "The Hague Mothers" based in the UK whose efforts are focused on transforming the Hague Convention which applies parental alienation to relationships of family violence.
Jeanne, you are such a wealth of knowledge and connections. Thank you for letting folks know about The Hague Mothers and that this is an international issue. As a parent who requested shared parenting at the start of my divorce, I was accused of parental alienation when my ex sought sole custody of our 5 children. Thankfully, experts and the judge involved in our divorce trial saw through this scam and I was awarded sole custody. Even my ex's 'expert' admitted on the stand that since we couldn't co-parent, then I should get custody.
This is such a complex issue thank you for sharing your story and broadening the perspective and understanding.
Sometimes a parent can try too hard to do the right thing for the child and end up alienating the child. Children’s feelings need to be understood- especially as teenagers.
